Searches and Quests

Above all, Al was interested in asking the questions others did not even conceive of asking.

Al himself distinguished between Quests, Searches, Issues, and Specific Questions in his work. We have preserved these four distinctions and provided a separate page for each.

We think that by Quests, he meant very large scale inquiries; by Searches, inquiries of somewhat lesser scale or more targeted inquiries (who determines the appropriate scale in each case?); by Issues, rather unresolvable positions that continue to attract followers on both sides and do not result in easy consensus; and by Specific Questions, very specific inquiries.
